Smart Openers

Smart garage doors. Open from anywhere. Never wonder if you closed it.

Last updated April 23, 2026

You can make almost any garage door smart for under $200 — either a retrofit hub that talks to your existing opener, or a new Wi-Fi-native opener that includes the radio and app out of the box. We install myQ, Meross, Tailwind, and the Wi-Fi line from LiftMaster and Chamberlain, and we make sure HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Home work before we leave.

What's included in this service?

  • myQ hub install for existing LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Craftsman openers
  • Meross MSG100HK install for HomeKit (Apple Home) compatibility
  • Tailwind iQ3 install for universal brand support and geofencing
  • New Wi-Fi-native opener install (LiftMaster Secure View with camera)
  • Aladdin Connect retrofit for Genie openers
  • Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Home pairing
  • IFTTT and routine setup (auto-close at bedtime, etc.)
  • Wi-Fi signal test at the opener — relocation or extender if weak

When do you need this service?

  • You want to check if the door is closed from the office
  • Kids or guests keep leaving it open overnight
  • You use Apple Home / HomeKit and your current opener is myQ-only
  • You want a camera inside the garage tied to the door
  • Auto-close when you leave the house (geofencing)
  • Package delivery with guest access codes

What do homeowners ask about Smart Openers?

myQ versus HomeKit — what's the deal?

myQ (LiftMaster and Chamberlain's native platform) is the most common and works great through the myQ app. The catch: myQ doesn't natively support Apple HomeKit anymore as of 2023. If you're an Apple Home household and you want Siri control, you need a HomeKit-compatible device instead — Meross MSG100HK, Tailwind iQ3 with the HomeKit Hub, or an Aqara hub. We'll ask which platform you use before picking the hardware.

Is my opener new enough to go smart?

Any opener with safety sensors (so post-1993) can be retrofit with a Tailwind or Meross. LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers from 2011+ work directly with a myQ hub. Genie openers pair with Aladdin Connect. If your opener is 30+ years old, retrofit is possible but it's usually better to just replace the whole opener for $550 to $950 and get Wi-Fi built in.

Can I add a camera inside the garage?

Yes. LiftMaster Secure View has a built-in camera in the opener, and pairs with the myQ app. For retrofits, any Wi-Fi security camera (Blink, Wyze, Arlo, Ring) points at the garage, plus the smart-opener hub controls the door — two apps, but it works. Secure View is the cleaner single-app setup.

Will it work with spotty Wi-Fi in the garage?

We test Wi-Fi signal at the opener before install. If it's below about -70 dBm, we'll recommend a mesh node, a Wi-Fi extender, or a powerline adapter — smart openers that can't hold a connection are worse than no smart opener at all. The fix is usually $50 to $150 in extra networking gear.

What about notifications when the door opens or closes?

Standard on every smart platform. You get a phone notification when the door opens, closes, or has been open more than X minutes. Geofence auto-close — close the door automatically when the phone leaves a radius from home — is also common and probably the single most-used feature once families have it.

Homeowners who hired us for this

Called at 7:30 a.m. when I heard the bang — broken torsion spring, car trapped inside. A tech was in the driveway by 9:15 with a matched pair ready to install. Flat-rate quote before he started, done in under an hour. Felt like the old days of someone actually showing up.

Got three quotes for a new door after ours gave out. Lift Pro was the only one that talked about the HOA committee requirements up front and offered a wood-grain steel that got approved on the first try. Installed in one day, clean work, hauled the old one off.

David K. New Garage Door Installation · El Cajon

Old chain-drive opener was louder than my teenagers. They pulled it, installed a quiet belt-drive LiftMaster with Wi-Fi, and walked me through the app before leaving. It closes itself now when I drive away. Crew was on time and actually picked up their packaging.
